Course Title: Web Page Design, Introduction
Course Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: None

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to web page design and Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML).  In the first half of the semester, students will focus on using Urban Planet for the basic design elements of text, color, images or graphics and links for creating a web page.  In the second half of the semester, students will concentrate on designing a basic web page using Dream Weaver and Fireworks.  The goal is to create and maintain their own personal web page within the school’s web site.

This course supports career and technical education efforts of having students learn authentic skills for the workplace.

What content-based instructional practices do you plan to use in this course?  What are some on-going, formative and summative assessments will you use to determine if your practices are successful?  (Academic Rigor in Thinking Curriculum)

This class will be a combination of both lecture and lab work and will include class assignments, projects, reports, tests, quizzes, and an on-line portfolio of each students course work.  Evaluation and assessment of each student will be based on student’s performance on all assignments, projects, tests, and participation.  Each assignment will have point value.  Each student is required to have a folder.

Computers with Internet access
Digital still and video cameras, scanner, printers
Teacher generated materials
Internet sites and tutorials
Handouts and articles related to class topics
Software—BBEdit, Photoshop, Dream Weaver, Internet Browser, Urban Planet

Suggested adaptations for English Language Learning, for Gifted and Talented and for Special Education students:

Will collaborate with others including parents, teachers, counselors, and administration regarding development of additional intervention strategies to allow for a successful classroom experience for each individual student.
