Cleveland's After School Club
(ASC) offers both academic and enrichment opportunities for  | | Making Ice Cream in a Bag! | students in
grades 7-8. We are able to do this through our 21st CCLC grant and
community partnerships. Our primary community partner is the East YMCA.
Academic classes are designed
primarily to serve children who are not at grade level in reading
and/or math, but all students are eligible to enroll. Participants
receive two hours of academic tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday, and one
hour of academics along with one hour of enrichment on Monday and

Wednesday.
Enrichment classes include:
Knitting, Creative Technology, Kids in the Kitchen, Crafts Club, Baby-sitting 101, Service-Learning Youth, Kung Fu/Martial Arts, Hmong Dance, Japanese Club, Improv Class, iMovie, Self-Defense, Lego Robotics, Book Club, Swimming at the East YMCA, Team Games/Open Gym & Yoga.
Also this year, Cleveland Junior High will be collaborating with three elementary schools: Dayton's  | | These students are preparing for their performance at the End of ASC Showcase. They presented a beautiful Hmong Dance. | Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary, John A. Johnson Achievement Plus Elementary, and Phalen Lake Elementary
to offer opportunities for fifth and sixth grade students attending
those schools to visit Cleveland, meet students, and build new
friendships. The program is designed to help elementary students make
the transition to a junior high environment.
Registration forms for
Cleveland's After School  | | Yarn, yarn, yarn! Beginning knitters give their fingers a break as they pose for a photo. | Club are mailed to every students home at the
end of August. Students may join the extended day program at any point
during the school year, but registration forms must be returned before
a student can begin participating. Parents interested in enrolling
their child at other times during the school year should contact me for
space availability.
ASC operates Monday through
Thursday from 2:45pm - 4:45pm. The program began October 8 and runs
through April. Participants are encouraged to attend  | | Students prepare their Lego Robots for the Technology Showcase. | all four days.
There is a healthy snack provided every day, as well as transportation
for those students who are eligible.
