Last day here in Seattle, WA. We were just getting use to the time change. Everyone is happy to be going home however. Today is the big day! We get to tour Boeing as VIP guests. Boeing was everything we had expected and more. It is in it's own world...almost. I thought 3M and Walt Disney was big, the magnitude of Boeing makes everyone else look so tiny. We got to see the newest airplane model, 787-8, being built on the floor. Can't wait to see how it'll turn out. If this tour does not open the students eyes...what else will. Students did a really nice job with their behaviors, and asked some very intelligent questions. We took a group picture in front of one of the 6 hanger doors that were the size of a football field. We had a wonderful lunch at Ivar's Landing after the tour. It was next to a port where a ferry boat transported people and cars back and worth between the Puget Sound. After
Sunday, May 31: After breakfast, our day started off with a little drive to the University of Washington. Our driver, Dave, was able to swing a quick drive-by around UW for the students to see the campus. Mr. Xiong noted that the late martial arts icon, Bruce Lee, attended UW. He is also buried in Seattle. Students spent a good portion of the day at the Seattle Aquarium. They saw an octopus, otters, seals, and star fishes (to name a few). It was something knew for everyone. We also had a good lunch on the second floor of the aquarium. After the aquarium, we took an one-hour Harbor
We had a little bit of time left before dinner after the cruise tour so the bus driver took us to see the Fremont Troll. What turned out to be an art contest for the Fremont Art Council resulted in something that has drawn-in many visitors. Ms. Lovestrand retold the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff. We also visited a Lock and Dam to see how it operated. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are in charge of operated the Lock and Dam. After these two visits, we headed back to Pier 55 and had dinner at Red Robins where we could have all the fries we wanted. Everyone had a wonderful day.
Saturday, May 30: Don't tell the students in Seattle that they will be having Saturday and Sunday school. They may be having too much fun to even know the difference. We hope that's the case. After breakfast at the hotel, students were divided into two teams before going to the Challenger Learning Center. Each group participated in a simulated space mission. It was a great learning experience as they learned how to problem solve, communicate information, make decisions and team build. We had lunch at Wings Cafe around 1:00 pm. Everyone ate outside and watched planes land and flew off. After lunch, students
After another long day at the Museum of Flight, we returned to the hotel for a little rest before going out to dinner. Dinner was at Zoopa, a restaurant that catered pasta, salad, and desserts. Most had either sphagetti or pizza. It was another full dinner for everyone! Friday, May 29: It's a good thing the students went to bed early because the time change forced everyone to get up a little earlier than usual. Breakfast is at 8:15 am for us but it's 10:15 am in MN. We will be visiting the Apollo Moon School which is part of the Museum of Flight. Sounds like a lot of fun and
We had lunch at Wings Cafe, inside the museum. Students had to a choice of getting either a peanut butter sandwich or a hotdog with chips. They had all the drinks they wanted. For their good behaviors, Mrs. Wall provided ice cream treats. After the MOF, we left for the Space Needle. Students had a good time up in the air! We walked to dinner at this big open building that had many restaurants inside. Thursday, May 28: Today is the day! While some fourth graders are taking a charter bus to Oshkosh, WI, fifth
Students had lunch around 11:30 am and departed for the airport a little after 12:00 pm. Many are anxious, yet excited at the same time!! Plane arrived in Seattle at 3:55 pm. We are in Pacific time zone so the clock turned back on us. The plane ride was a nice one. Seeing Mt. Rainier with the ice brings back chills from this year's Minnesota winter. Glad we are done with winter! A few students are complaining about plugged ears..the chaperones feel the same way. Our tour bus took us to dinner at Dave's Diner, a couple of hundred feet from the airport. Students chose anything they wanted from kids menu. Local time: 5:18 pm when we ordered (2 hrs. behind Minnesota time). From Amy M: HI. How are you guys? See
Dinner was good! Now we're off to our hotel rooms for a much needed rest! We have great rooms at the Holiday Inn-Express (SeaTac Airport). Each student should have gotten a call home. If you didn't here from your child, we may have gotten the wrong phone numbers. Well, we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow so good night everyone!! Wednesday, May 27: Sleepless night knowing that tomorrow is the big day. Better get packing!! Tuesday, May 26: Anxiously waiting for the Seattle trip. Still unsure what to expect but excited to see all the activities that have been planned out. At least we know we'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express for a few nights. NOTE TO SELF: Plane leaves MSP at 2:30 PM on Thursday, May 28. Image Gallery:
